Success in Leigh
During the month of July, the little town of Leigh was projected onto the big stage as it hosted four fixtures for the Women’s 2022 European Championships.
The likes of Netherlands and Sweden painted the Greater Manchester suburb in a sea of color as they travelled in their thousands.
A prominent aspect embedded in the supporters experience was the fan parks before each game.
A place where fans of both countries could gather pre-match and enjoy the live entertainment on offer, before taking part in an organised march down to Leigh Sports Village where the game took place.
Capricorn Security worked alongside Wigan Council to ensure the safety of supporters within the fan parks. We also had guards positioned along the walking route from the fan park at Leigh Town Hall, to the Sports Village.
Speaking after the Netherlands & Portugal fixture, Events Officer at Wigan Council Chris Kitchen was more than happy with how the day panned out.
‘We had a great day here working with Capricorn. The fans had a brilliant time and most importantly the fan park at Leigh Town Hall remained safe at all times thanks to Capricorn Security’.
All in all it was fantastic to play our part in modern history. England last hosted this competition in 2005 where 8 teams competed, fast forward 17 years and the number of countries taking part has doubled.
The final will be played at an 87,200 sell-out Wembley on 31 July – mind-boggling numbers compared with the last time England hosted the event, when just 957 turned up for one match between France and Italy at Preston’s Deepdale ground.
The atmosphere during the four fixtures at Leigh alone was special in many ways. On 13th July the Netherlands hosted Portugal as Oranje came out victorious in a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Defending champions the Netherlands were in town and hundreds of visiting supporters waving Dutch flags were marching behind a bright orange double-decker bus pumping dance music from giant speakers as it snaked its way along the narrow street towards the ground.
Great work from everyone involved ?? ✅
Opening night at Sonata
Early in July saw the opening of Sonata Piano & Cabaret Lounge in Manchester City Centre.
Since the launch night on the 1st July we have provided a security service from Thursday till Sunday every week.
Capricorn’s Leisure Operations Manager Cassie Smith is extremely happy with how the contract has gone so far.
‘I’ve been really impressed with the opening few weeks. The client has been satisfied and more importantly the customers have been leaving with a smile on their face which is great to see.
This sort of venue I think is quite unique to Manchester, there is nothing that really offers a similar experience to the clientele so we are proud to be a part of this for sure!’
Inspired by New York & Berlin, Sonata welcomes their guests with warm hospitality and live music every night.

Usman to the rescue!
During a shift in mid-July at Salford Royal Hospital, Usman Sikander was faced with a difficult situation in which he was able to resolve with no issue.
A patient who was agitated and became aggressive could not speak any English. Usman was on hand and approached the male to calm him down and diffuse the situation.
The staff at Salford Royal couldn’t thank Usman enough for the way in which he dealt with the situation.
We want to commend Usman on his brilliant work!
