What is door supervision?

Door supervision is more than just checking IDs for a bar or nightclub. Door supervisors are required to enforce venue policies, handle potential conflicts, and work closely with the venue’s staff in order to maintain a safe environment.

What does a door supervisor do?

A door supervisor works alongside staff in venues to maintain a safe and environment. Their duties include:

• Checking IDs and identifying/confiscating fake IDs for venues such as bars and nightclubs
• Controlling access to the venue to prevent unauthorised entry and overcapacity
• Monitoring crowd behaviour and preventing trouble before it starts
• Handling conflicts, diffusing arguments, and removing disruptive, aggressive, or heavily intoxicated individuals if necessary
• Working with emergency services like the police or ambulance services when required
• Providing a reassuring presence to ensure guests feel safe and welcomed

How is a door supervisor different from a security guard?

In general, security guards can work across a variety of sectors such as retail, and large offices. The one thing that security guards can’t do is work for venues that permit alcohol consumption.

This is where door supervisors differ, as they are trained to handle intoxicated individuals and resolve conflicts in high pressure environments, that tend to occur in venues such as nightclubs and bars.

Do door supervisors only work at nightclubs and bars?

No, door supervisors are necessary in a variety of venues, including:

• Restaurants and casinos – Ensuring the safety of guests and staff, on top of controlling access at the door
• Hotels – Managing entry and preventing hotel room burglaries
• Concerts and festivals – Controlling access, checking tickets, and conducting bag searches to prevent dangerous items from entering the event
• Corporate events and private parties – Managing guest lists and preventing disruptions

What qualifications do your door supervisors have?

All our security workforce hold a valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) license, which means they have completed the necessary training in conflict management, physical intervention, and legal responsibilities. In addition, our team undergoes further training in customer service, emergency procedures, and venue-specific security protocols.

Our inhouse Highfield accredited Training centre offers a wide range of training courses and CPD for the Security Industry, in addition to this there is support and expert advice when for applying for your SIA licence.
